hey, so get this-
john lennon, i don’t like you. i don’t like your silly wife much, either.
get the hell out of our revolution and haul ass back to england where you belong.
you’re ruining everything.
sincerely, 1969.
my headspace has been owned by the sixties and seventies as of late and my opinions about certain celebrities who have helped to shape our perception of that time period have come to change quite a bit. a lot of my distaste as of late has fallen on the shoulders of john lennon, who claimed quite a bit of the cultural revolution for himself, after several years of evading any kind of allegiance to any kind of popular social movement. soon after, however, on his album news of the world he claimed feminism as one of his many newly adopted causes and penned ‘woman is the nigger of the world’ while cheating on his wife, at her party, with her in the next room.
not to mention that he abused media attention to the point where he helped to delegitimize the counter culture movement.
and don’t even get me started on popular perception of him as a ‘peace activist’.
